Inku: what our team built and what it is not

Inku is made and operated by our team. That is the first fact, not a footnote. See the disclosures and the Inku profile.

We built it because prepared Japanese review on a phone is a real job, and many adults do not want to assemble a card factory before they learn あ.

What it is

An iPhone app with prepared kana, vocabulary, phrases, audio, and spaced review. Progress can stay on the device. There is a trial and a paid listing on the US App Store. It is a companion, not a school.

What it is not

It is not an Android app. It is not a custom card workshop. It is not a sequenced kanji course. It is not a grammar explanation system. Anki, WaniKani, and Bunpro exist for those jobs.

If a page on this site ever sounds like Inku solves every bottleneck, that page is wrong. Tell us. We will fix the sentence.

How we write about it

Inku appears first in flashcards and SRS lists because it is the owned, lower-setup option we can describe from the inside. It does not appear first in grammar, speaking, or dictionary lists. We do not invent scores. We do not hide the Android gap.

If Inku is a poor fit for you, use the profile’s “look elsewhere” list and leave. That is a successful use of the site.
