JapanesePod101
JapanesePod101 is a large catalog of podcast-style lessons. It is useful as listening input, not as a complete method.
Good fit if
- Learners who like lesson-plus-dialogue audio
- Commuters who want a leveled podcast
- Beginners who still want some English support
Look elsewhere if
- You want Japanese-only input from day one
- You need a tight, short syllabus
- Marketing volume distracts you
JapanesePod101 is a long-running lesson and podcast library. awesome-japanese and All Language Resources list it as a supplemental listening resource. Lower levels use a lot of English. Higher levels use more Japanese.
What job it does
It gives you spoken Japanese with a host, a dialogue, and a transcript. That is easier than raw radio and more oral than a textbook page.
Limits
The catalog is huge, which can become browsing instead of study. It is not a substitute for reading, grammar retrieval, or speaking feedback. Paid plans are easy to overbuy if you only use a few lessons a week.
How to test it
Pick one level and finish three lessons, including the dialogue without looking at English first. If you can hear more on lesson three than lesson one, keep it. If you only collected downloads, switch to NHK News Web Easy audio or Irodori.
