Shinobi Japanese combines illustrated, graded stories with audio, word lookup, quizzes, and spaced review. Its site describes a path covering JLPT N5 to N2. The useful role is supported reading alongside other study.

How to try the format

Choose an easy story. Read once for the main event, listen to the same passage, then look up words that block your understanding. Close the text and explain what happened. These are suggested evaluation steps, not results from our own app testing.

A story that requires constant lookup is probably too difficult for the session you want. Move down before adding more review cards.

Limits and cost

Graded stories do not replace a sequenced grammar course, conversation, or official exam questions. An app’s level label is a guide to its material, not proof that you can pass that JLPT level.
