Speechling

Speechling is a recording and coaching platform from Speechling Education Corporation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit in California. The job is spoken Japanese you record, then a coach who comments later. It is not OJAD, and it is not a live italki lesson.

Japanese is a listed language on the listening tool, the App Store listing, and the Google Play listing, all checked 1 Sep 2026.

How a session works

The official quickstart, checked the same day, has you log in, stay in Speak mode, hear a native recording, record yourself, compare the two waveforms, and optionally click Save for Coaching. You then press one of three spaced-repetition buttons. The page describes those buttons as 4 days, 10 minutes, or 1 minute before the card returns, and says Speechling will recompute the intervals.

Saved recordings live in the Audio Journal, on the web navbar or the mobile bottom bar. The quickstart says the coach will give you feedback there. The App Store and Google Play listings say that feedback arrives within 24 hours.

You can skip recording and still see a suggested answer. That is not the coaching job.

Free and paid coaching, as labeled

The pricing page lists a Forever Free plan with no credit card. Free includes the curriculum, male and female professional vocal talent, side-by-side voice comparison, the Android and iOS apps, and up to 10 coaching sessions per month except English, French, Chinese, and German. Japanese is not in that exception list.

The mission page, checked the same day, describes around 15 to 30 minutes of free coaching per month for free users, a low monthly fee for unlimited coaching, and scholarships. This profile repeats both the session cap and the minute range. It does not convert one figure into the other.

Speechling Unlimited is listed from $19.99 a month. That tier lists unlimited 1-on-1 coaching on the sentence collection, a lasting Audio Journal, language switching, and offline premium resources. Confirm the live price before paying. The pricing page also showed a time-limited promotion when checked; this profile does not treat that discount as permanent.

The mission page says advanced students can answer a question or describe an image and receive feedback similar to a private tutor. That is still asynchronous coaching, not a booked video lesson.

Limits

Speechling does not look up textbook accent kernels. For that, use OJAD. It does not replace a teacher you chose for conversation. If you need a live appointment, use the speaking hub.

The product is built around a microphone and a later comment. If you will not record, skip it.
