Imabi
A free, long grammar reference. Excellent for lookup. Too much to read as a first course.
IntermediateAdvancedFreeInvolvedGrammarWeb
Good fit if
- Learners who already have a beginner grammar path
- People who want a free reference beyond Tae Kim
- Readers who look up patterns from input
Look elsewhere if
- You are still learning kana
- You need scheduled retrieval practice
- A dense reference will stall you
Imabi is a large free grammar site. Lessons go from particles into constructions most beginner books never reach. It behaves like a reference shelf, not a 20-minute daily app.
Who it fits
Use it when a textbook note is too thin, or when you met a pattern in reading and need a fuller explanation. Intermediate learners get more from it than absolute beginners.
Limits
There is no review queue. Density can freeze a new learner. Pair it with Tae Kim as the first explanation source, or with Bunpro if the bottleneck is retrieval rather than explanation.
