JPDB
JPDB is a guided vocabulary system for learners who want Anki-like review without owning card design.
Good fit if
- Learners who want a supplied vocabulary path
- People ranking words by anime, novels, or games
- Anki users who dislike deck maintenance
Look elsewhere if
- You need custom card templates
- You want a full grammar course
- Offline desktop review is required
JPDB is a Japanese vocabulary and kanji review site that ranks words by how often they appear in media. It is listed in both awesome-japanese and donkuri/japanese-resources as an Anki alternative, not as a complete Japanese course.
What job it does
You study prepared vocabulary with spaced review. Frequency lists and media tags help you choose words that appear in the books, shows, or games you actually use.
That is a different job from Anki. Anki can hold any card you design. JPDB decides more of the material and presentation.
Limits
JPDB does not replace grammar study, speaking practice, or a reading habit. It also does not give Anki-level control over templates, fields, or local collections.
If you already have a stable Anki deck that matches your reading, switching only adds a second queue.
How to test it
Use the free tier on a small list for two weeks. Watch whether the review load stays understandable and whether the words show up in your actual Japanese input.
