Satori Reader is a Japanese reading site with annotated articles, dialogues, and audio. awesome-japanese and All Language Resources both list it as a reading-first tool. The first chapters of each article are free; the rest sit behind a subscription.
What job it does
It gives you Japanese you can finish, with notes attached to the hard parts. That is more structured than raw news and less rigid than a textbook chapter.
Limits
It is not a complete course. Grammar coverage follows the stories. If you need a sequenced syllabus, keep Genki, Irodori, or Bunpro beside it.
How to test it
Read two free chapters with audio on. If you finish them and remember a few new words in context, the format fits. If you only click notes and never hear the audio, NHK News Web Easy may be enough.
