Shin Kanzen Master
Use Shin Kanzen Master to drill one weak JLPT section at N4 through N1. Buy one book, not the whole shelf. It is not an N5 starter course.

Shin Kanzen Master (catalogued in English as Shin Kanzen Masuta / New Complete Master) is 3A Corporation’s JLPT prep series. Each book targets one skill at one level: grammar, vocabulary, kanji, reading, or listening. The English catalogue lists those lines for N1, N2, N3, and N4. It does not list an N5 Shin Kanzen Master line.
The workflow is paper drill for a known weak section, not a full mock-test app and not a beginner course.
What a typical volume contains
The N3 grammar, reading, and listening product pages, checked 1 Sep 2026, share a pattern: an overview of the question format, a training section that splits item types, then a mock test so you can check that skill. The N3 grammar book adds English and Chinese translation, unlike the N1 and N2 grammar books on that page. The N3 listening book has CDs and free mp3 audio from 3A.
Prices are per volume. The N3 grammar page lists 1,320 yen including tax. Confirm the current list price on the volume you actually buy.
How to use it
Identify the weak official section from a timed official sample or workbook sitting. Buy that one book. Finish the training chapters before the mock at the back.
Do not buy grammar, reading, listening, vocab, and kanji for the same level in one order unless you already finish books. Five parallel exam texts is how weeks stall.
N3 grammar notes that the book can also strengthen upper-intermediate grammar outside the test. That is still not a substitute for Bunpro retrieval or a main course.
Limits
These books are Japanese-first exam texts. N1 and N2 grammar volumes, per the N3 grammar page, do not include the same English translation. Self-study is heavier than an English explanation site.
N5 candidates should stay with official samples and a beginner course such as Genki or Irodori. 3A’s N5 exam line in the same catalogue is Points & Practice, which is a different series and is not this profile.
